HostNation befriending

Ongoing Project

HostNation connects lonely asylum seekers and refugees who are referred to us by friendly, local people, so as to improve their experience of life in London.  Often they know no one outside officialdom and their own ethnic communities. Meaningful social contact with Londoners is rare; we create opportunities for them to have it and become more integrated.

We introduce people on a one-to-one basis. They then meet up on a weekly basis over a 3-month period, spending time in their neighbourhood or exploring the city. Matched pairs aren’t expected to always meet at the same time every week; our approach is flexible and we leave people to arrange meet-ups themselves, as fit best with their own schedules and other commitments.

How you can help

We are looking for compassionate, friendly people in the Borough of Ealing who can spare a few hours a week to befriend a refugee over a three month period – be a friendly face, check in on them, have conversations so they can practise their English, show them the area, help them explore British culture and way of life. We do the introductions and support the relationship during this time.
