City Harvest food redistribution charity

Ongoing Project

“City Harvest helps put surplus food to good use in a sustainable way, by distributing to organisations that feed the hungry”.

City Harvest, established in 2014, is London’s first ‘last-mile’ food redistribution charity.

Based in Acton and Leyton (New Spitalfield’s Market), we rescue surplus food and deliver to those who need it most, with chilled vans forming rapid response units, collecting surplus food 7 days a week and distributing throughout the capital.

Free of charge, City Harvest vans collect and deliver 200,000 meals a week from supermarkets, wholesale markets, manufacturers, and the hospitality industry, delivering to over 375  London community programmes, including homeless shelters, soup kitchens, hostels, community projects, family centres, children’s programmes, mental health support schemes, and domestic abuse refuges.

By volunteering with us, you will have the chance to make a direct positive impact on thousands of vulnerable people in London. Because of the time you donate to helping City Harvest, many Londoners facing obstacles such as homelessness, food poverty, and/or domestic abuse will have access to a nutritious meal.

How you can help

Every volunteering experience with City Harvest is different. There is huge flexibility depending on the amount of time you can commit. Roles assigned will depend on the time of day and where the need is greatest. Currently we are seeking a Warehouse assistant, which involves: unloading deliveries, creating mixed trays of food, quality control: checking and grading fresh food, helping to load vans and daily warehouse tasks.
