Learning Through Play

Would you like to see your children playing safely on your street, maybe like you did as a child?

A play street creates a space for your children to play, turning your road into a safe, imaginative place for your kids to get out and enjoy. It’s not just for the kids either! A play street is a fantastic opportunity to get to know your neighbours better, even those who you have never met before.

Tamsyn Kent, a mum who lives in Hanwell, helps organise play streets on Milton Road. The very first one brought together more than 100 people, both children and adults! She says it’s been a great experience.

“My children love it; they now have friends up and down the street and look forward to seeing them. It gives the kids some freedom and, also, some ownership and pride in the place they live.”

Can you picture that? The children playing, whilst the adults get to know each other better over (lots of) tea and cake. Of course, some reminisce about their childhood – the street once again being full of life, love and laughter.

And it doesn’t stop there, Tamsyn discovered that the play street brought a real sense of community spirit to Milton Road: “We say hello, have coffee and know there’s someone to help if we need them. All because of the play street.”
