Your Voice, Your Perivale

The iconic art deco Hoover building is a symbol of how Perivale’s community has changed since the 1930’s. As the local industrial sector developed, so did the residential homes to accommodate the newly hired workers. New transport links and Ealing Sports Ground connected people on the Medway Village to Bilton Road and Horsenden Lane. Today these places have bloomed into new connections, that are present in the green spaces and community buildings that host a hive of activity.

Volunteer led Selborne Society invite schools and families to learn about the conservation work taking place at Perivale Wood Local Nature Reserve. Every April you can visit to see the grand views of millions of bluebells on show.

The Grand Union Canal, which winds through Perivale, offers a picturesque setting for boating, cycling, and leisurely walks. Close by, at the foot of Horsenden Hill, Apply Day has become an annual Perivale tradition. Hosted by the community led Friends of Horsenden Farm, it’s one of many events they manage every year, and whether you are eating pizza, drinking Perivale Tap’s locally brewed ale or walking the Gruffalo trail, every weekend is a fun weekend for all.

Among the many different volunteer groups that collaborate under the banner of Horsenden Farm, MindFood help people with depression, anxiety and stress by offering wellness activities such as gardening, mindfulness and crafts. They also offer activities for people who don’t feel confident in their English.

Perivale Hive is literally buzzing with activity, as a community managed library it relies on support from local volunteers to organise craft fairs, a monthly classic cinema club, the weekly knit and natter, a book club, play for small children and yoga sessions. Across the road at the Perivale Community Centre you can find anything from archery to dance classes.

Perivale is also home to the wonderful Impact Theatre, a charity that hosts large-scale musical productions delivered by adults with learning disabilities, and encourages creativity and art to develop communication and self-confidence.

Your Voice,Your Town is designed to build on the community wealth that already exists in Perivale, by bringing people, voluntary and faith groups, schools and businesses together, to work hand in hand on the issues that are most important to you.
