Inspired by the 'Get London Reading' campaign and at the request of parents whose mother tongue languages are not English, we started our 'Get Southall Reading' after school club in 2013, for Southall's primary schoolchildren.
Reading School's overall aim is to improve reading and literacy skills at primary level, to give the children a good start as they move up to secondary level and to enable them to meet future aspirations and have successful careers options.
Reading School also works with parents through its Parents Support Group [Southall Parents For Education], to further encourage children's reading development in the home and which also improves parents own English skills.
Reading School is registered with the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education [NRCSE] as a supplementary school and has gained a Quality Framework Bronze Award. All Tutors are CRB checked and we provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for children to study.
We run every Monday, from 4pm - 5.30pm, at Holy Trinity Church, High Street.Southall. UB1 3HH and provide additional tuition in all 3 Primary core subjects of English, Maths and Science. From January 2016, we will also be running every Friday, 4pm - 5.30pm at Greenford Park Community Hall. 18 Queens Avenue, Greenford UB6 9BX. We have new places available at both sessions.
We also offer supervised volunteering opportunities and work experience for older brothers and sisters at Secondary schools, who can involve in reading mentoring and lesson planning. This can support school CVs and Duke of Edinburgh Awards schemes.
For further information and / or registration, pop in on Mondays / Fridays.
