A Polish Trail

Completed Project

Project Date(s): November 2018

 ‘For your freedom and ours’

If you are interested in learning about all that this quote is referring to, join us on one of the Polish-themed tours which is a walk around Central Ealing.  It will combine two centennial anniversaries – that of the end of the First World War and that of Poland regaining its independence. This will provide the opportunity to talk about those earlier times and to go back even further in exploring the links between this country and Poland. However, the walk will also draw attention to the Poles who have lived here since the last war and all those who live here now – their businesses, shops, schools, meeting places and churches.

Starting at Ealing Broadway station we will stand on Haven Green and recall past and present Polish links with the immediate area, ponder over the sign of times: the oldest Polish deli on the corner replaced by a Starbucks Café, and then move to the Mall and the Uxbridge Road. From there we will go down the High Street peeking into the elegant Polish Sowa Restaurant and Deli Polonia towards Pitzhanger House and Walpole Park for a surprise connection over 200 years ago as well as to see the wreaths placed in the earlier commemoration that day at the Ealing War Memorial. We will then walk back to the centre via Grove Road and Windsor Road where we will visit the Polish Church and try out the Polish Gryf Restaurant if we so wish.

This walk normally costs £10pp but this time it is free if you come through this site. Just say ‘Bubble’! Children come free if you look after them. (Donations welcome though!)
